A Lyrical Beginning: A Simple Approach to Introducing Nuance & Musicality to Beginning Flutists

Sunday, March 19th @ 9AM (subject to change)

MidSouth Flute Society Festival

Festival information can be accessed via this link.

A Lyrical Beginning: A Simple Approach to Introducing Nuance & Musicality to Beginning Flutists is a pedagogical workshop that demonstrates a simple method for teaching nuance and musicality to beginning flutists using tunes with lyrics (songs).  In the workshop, you will discover how to use traditional, well-known folk tunes with lyrics to explore the meaning/emotional landscape of a given folksong to encourage students to experiment with possible interpretations of the song, and find technical means to achieve their vision.  Through such approach students will gain an understanding of the relationship between nuance/expressive notations, the technique to achieve such nuances, and expressive/musical performance that serves the inherent emotional character of a piece.
